A Slew Of Wii Rumors

Here is something to help you get through these slow news days. Fellow blogger Falafelkid has recently posted a slew of rumors that he so nicely translated from the Spanish Website Revogamers. Everything from the successor to the DS, to new VC games are discussed. Enjoy the read below.

GameBoy successor cancelled

Nintendo had been working on the ´Gameboy Advance Next´ which was to become a third pillar (alongside the Wii as a home console and the DS as a portable). The handheld was to feature hardware comparable in power to that of the GameCube.

It was to offer online gaming and downloadable titles, do away with physical media altogether and be compatible with the Virtual Console. Apparently, concerns over media storage and too high a price point caused the project to be scrapped.


DS successor in the works

Nintendo is working on ´Project 3´ which is to become the successor of the DS. It will be a handheld console without buttons. Instead, it is just one big touchscreen, comparable to Apple´s ´iPhone´.


New Miyamoto IP

Miyamoto is working on a new IP on a similar scale to Zelda. It is codenamed ´The Rise of Darkness´.

It is said to be an online-only title, perhaps an MMO. Miyamoto wants every day to be different in the game. An older rumour on the same site pointed to a game that mixed elements of the real world with science fiction and spritual elements, loosely inspired by Buddhism. Gameplay-wise it was described as mixture between Zelda and Shenmue.


Nintendo developing MMO

More talk about an online game, codenamed ´Project Live´. This sounds very much like an MMO. It is said to be a big city, in which you can kidnap players from another team and leave clues for them to find you. No word on whether this is connected to Miyamoto´s new IP.


Miis used in future games

´Animal Crossing´ on Wii will be based on Miis, ´Mario Party 8´ and even the Wii version of ´Mario Kart´ might feature them, as well.


More channels coming

The next Wii system update will feature both a ´Movie Channel´ and a ´Talk Channel´. No further information is given other than the names. Also, there will be some improvements to the ´Mii Channel´, as far as I can make out.


Brain training may become dedicated channel

Some talk about a game that is based on the Latin phrase ´Mens sana in corpore sano´ (Latin for: ´a healthy mind in a healthy body´). This sounds very much like Braining Training or Big Brain Academy. Apparently, this could become a channel of its own.


Wii mic takes shape

The Wii microphone will plug into the controller, just like the Nunchuk extension.


N64 blockbuster titles coming to VC

´GoldenEye 007´ and ´Donkey Kong 64´ will make their appearance on the Virtual Console this year. Apparently, the contracts between Nintendo and developer Rare work in Nintendo´s favour. It looks as if no other Rare games will become available, though.

Also, ´Star Fox 64´ (aka Lylat Wars), Ganbare Goemon (aka Legend of the Mystical Ninja) and ´Mischief Makers´ will make it to the Virtual Console soon.

Demo Channel?

Look what I found. Fake or real gamers.....You be the judge. I have been saying for months now that they need a channel like this. Please be true Nintendo.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Players?

Huge Props to pwninator for the following rumor: It seems as though Super Mario Galaxy may include multiplayer when the game is finally released. Keep in mind this is only rumor as of right now but make sure you click the link below and see for yourself.

Kingdom Hearts Wii?

There has been rumors running rampant about a Kingdom Hearts on Nintendo Wii for seemingly an eternity. With all the love that Square has been giving us, why not see a Kingdom Hearts on a Nintendo console?

Reader John has just sent me this scan that he found in his recent issue of EGM. Immediately my mind began conjuring up ideas that could take place if they had actually produced a title of this magnitude on Wii. It would be spectacular to say the least and would solidify Nintendo as a major player in this next gen race (if they haven't already done so themselves)

I then thought to myself, which issue is this story coming out of? If it happens to be the "April" issue of the publication, I think we may have an early April fools joke on our hands. I will have to do some more research but HUGE PROPS to John for the story and the scan.

**New Gameonrevolution Podcast Tonight!**

Cryptic Words From Matt C

A portion of Matt Casamassina’s latest blog post states some really interesting vague facts about upcoming unannounced projects that are making their way to Wii. Although nothing specific was discussed, he had some very positive things to say. Check it out:

There are some potentially crazy-awesome games coming down the pipeline for Wii, by the way. You guys have no idea. I know that’s vague — has to be, but I’ve seen some stuff that you simply have no idea even exists and frankly, if you did, you’d flip out. Comments like these have a way of backfiring on me and i’m sure some people will be annoyed that I’ve even brought up, since I’m unable to give even a hint about the projects in question. Others will undoubtedly say that I’m merely making crap up because there’s no way anybody can disprove statements that are intentionally so unrevealing. But whatev. I know that if I was in your position, I’d be happy just to know that some very cool, unexpected stuff is brewing somewhere way behind-the-scenes. I swear, when this stuff finally shows up, I’ll let you know that I blogged about it way back when. In the meantime, this is probably good material for the IGN Wii message boards......

...Next week should be fun. We've got some companies stopping by to show us some Wii games. We'll be announcing a new project or two during the week. Nothing earth-shattering-major, so don't hype yourselves up, but kind of neat all the same. And if we can ever actually play them, games like SSX will be reviewed. By the way, EA never announced its new Wii project, did it? That must be forthcoming, too

GTA V For Wii?

Please file the following under "RUMOR" gamers. The following is a report from the good guys over at Codenamerevolution. Here is what they had to say about the possibility of the next GTA game on Nintendo's 5th system Wii.

Rumour has it that Rockstar Games plans to developer Grand Theft Auto 5 for the Wii. SPOnG spoke to Rockstar about this posibility that the company responded with a “stifled giggle”. Was the giggle for the lack of horsepower on the Wii? Or is it that they have something planned? GTA4, which is set to release in October for other platforms is being built upon a new engine that would have to be “dumbed-down” for Wii.

Chances are we will see Grand Theft Auto on the Wii, but I have my money on a “spin-off” in the likes of past spin-offs such as Vice City and San Andreas.

My Thoughts:
I don't forsee a huge problem with Wii getting a GTA game. It's been said in the past that the NOA President Reggie Fils-Aime has been in talks with Rockstar about the possibility of bringing GTA to a Nintendo console. With the recent announcement of the controversial Manuhunt 2 headed to Wii, anything is possible.

With rising costs in game production, the easiest way for a developer to make some decent money is to have their game on every system possible. Production costs for Wii are remarkably lower than all of the Next-Gen systems, so in my opinion, I could definitely see this rumor coming true. More Wii Colors on the Way?

The website GameDrift HAS reported that an "Anonymous" Nintendo Representative Revealed that Nintendo is going to release new Wii colors by the end of 2007. Below is an Excerpt from the article:

In a rather shocking revelation this weekend, an anonymous Nintendo rep revealed to GameDrift that a plan is running through the pipeline to colorize the, as of now, rather bland coloration of its hit console, Wii. The rep did not reveal detailed specifics, however did remark that a red and black console have been confirmed.

My thoughts:
Even though the validity of their source cannot be proven, I can definitely see this rumor coming true. When Nintendo launched its dual screened handheld, ds lite, it launched in only White. After months of the systems release, we were given the lite in numerous colors with unlimited success. Nintendo no doubt realizes this and will exploit it with the years to come.

New Nintendo Wii Title on the Way?

The latest issue of Nintendo Dream Magazine states that the sequel to a famous series is going to be announced soon. Unfortunately, the publication divulges absolutely no information as to what the game may be. Some obvious suspects come to mind but let's remember, it may not even be a Nintendo based franchise. Here are some of my personal guesses.

A new Pikmin title (perfect fit for the wii-mote)
Kid Icarus (Please Nintendo.....please)
Punch Out (Again a nice fit for the wii-mote)
Nintendogs (Given the success of the DS versions)
Nights (If it isn't a Nintendo title, this would be it)

The good guys over at GoNintendo also translated the article. Here is what it had to state:

Nintendo Dream: “Successor of famous series is soon revealed” 18.01.07 - Japanese Nintendo Dream it announces in its newest expenditure that soon the successor of a famous series is revealed. With details the magazine holds back itself.

New FPS on the Way?

The following is an excerpt from IGN’s latest N-Query:

“…let’s just say we’re hearing rumblings of Wii-specific versions of at least one of the main FPS franchises out there. Oh, and when we say “Wii-specific” we don’t mean tacked on controls that claim to make it a new experience. We’re talking an immersive, competitive experience built from the ground up for Wii.”

All I can say is interesting..... We all know that Metroid is going to rock our world but am I clueless as to what title this could be. Will it play online? If I were to venture a guess, the only title that comes to mind is a Timesplitters game. What do you guys think?

Interesting Wii Rumors

Please take the following as rumour only and nothing more, but a Japanese site claims the following:

1. From Software is developing a “Kingsfieldesque” first-person action-RPG on Wii (sounds like an Oblivion style title)

2. Fire Emblem for the Wii will include the original Path of Radiance as well as the sequel to the game

3. NiGHTS to come to the Wii

4. Square and Disney have agreed to place the next Kingdom Hearts on Nintendo systems

5. Sword of Legendia is a spinoff of the “Tales of” series and is the first game of the “Swords of” series

My Thoughts:
What a way to kick off the weekend huh gamers? I will have to do some more investigating but file this under "rumor" for now. It seems as though the Nights rumors continues to persist and the Fire Emblem rumor seems pretty nifty; but can you imagine if Nintendo Wii got a killer app like Kingdom Hearts? I can only hope at this point that a portion of these rumors turn out to be true. Game ON.

Wii HD?

For all of those who have a High Definition Television
and a Nintendo Wii, it seems as though the Big N may have plans in the future to bring the High Def. set up to its 5th console.

“Tough choices about not including a DVD player at the start, tough choices about not including high-definition capability at the start. That’s because we wanted a mass-market price, and we believe the market will validate those decisions come launch day on this Sunday,” Fils-Aime said.

The key phrase that can be found in the quote is "from the start". Nintendo has already stated that a DVD enabled Wii will be coming out so will HD soon follow? Keep it here gamers. Game ON.

A New Year's Surprise?

Here is a nice little rumor that I would like to pass onto the gaming public, Do you guys think that Nintendo is planning on ringing in the new year with a VC surprise? They did it with Christmas day, so why not New Years? I would definitely file this one under rumor but keep it on your radar ladies and gentleman.

Sega Saturn to VC?

File this one under rumor gamers.

The rumor comes from fellow reader Fei34 who claims that a fellow DigiPen employee told him that Sega Saturn games would indeed be making an appearance on the Wii. Although this could still be wells away from becoming true, the fact that DigiPen, a highly respected video-game school in Redmond Washington, has this sort of knowledge is pretty intriguing. Especially by the fact that both Nintendo of America’s offices and DigiPen’s campus actually interconnects by a simple hallway. Could Fei34’s DigiPen source have even closer access to NOA’s employees in which he/she may have gotten the information?

The only thing that Fei34 left me was a confirmation that a “big game was coming.” Whether that’s a Sega Saturn game (like Panzer Dragoon Saga) or not, only time will tell. So don’t dismiss Nintendo’s systems on the Virtual Console as being cemented just yet.

Excite Truck to Feature Customizable Soundtracks?

Mark this one as "rumor" for now but apparently it looks like ExciteTruck will allow players to stream music from their SD cards and create their own custom soundtracks! This is a common feature in Xbox and Xbox 360 games which really made playing these types of games a little more enjoyable. If this bodes true, it’s a very pleasant surprise and will be welcomed with open arms come November. Let's keep those wi-motes crossed for this rumor.

One Wii Little Secret Left?

Huge props to Metaldave for this news story!!! Below is a quote taken from a recent Q and A with Gamepro magazine. It seems as though our Wii may be hiding one more secret.....

Q I recently went into a GameStop store to see if they had a Wii Kiosk and pick up the new Splinter Cell. While I was in there, I began to discuss the Wii system with the manager of the store. He explained Nintendo recently held a GameStop Managers kind of meet and greet for the Wii, with Reggie present. He also said Reggie announced their is still one more big secret left on the Wii, which will be revealed around launch. I called another store and the manager there said Reggie did in fact say such a thing. My question is have you heard any of this? Do you have any speculation as to what it may be? I have heard it is potentially a graphics solution or a camera attachment.


A: Wow, you're up on your stuff. I can confirm that there was a GameStop retreat and Reggie did in fact say there will be another big Wii revelation around launch time.

My Thoughts:
Online. I personally think that the big secret will have something to do with their online component of the Nintendo Wii. The online part of Wii still remains much of a mystery and seems to be a logical choice for the "secret".

My next guess: a new game has been in development for Wii and will be a HUGE surprise for gamers everywhere. Couple this with the recent rumors of Sega having a Wii title in development and we may have our secret. Let the speculation resume. As always I will be following this as it unfolds so keep it here. 1 Million, How About 7 Million!? *RUMOR*

The infamous Joystiq.comstates that over 2 million Wiis were produced in the third quarter of 2006, and should be easy for Nintendo to reach projected launch numbers for the console in every region none to man.

Also according to them, the possibility of producing 7-9 million more systems by year's end is not looking too shabby either. If this rumor bodes true, I am sure we will have a plethora of systems by years end. I highly suggest that we file this one under the rumor folder. As always, we will keep you updated.
