Quick Update: We were told some time back that every one's favorite hedgehog, Sonic, would be shipping in March. That date has held for quite some time....until today. Sega released a new game ship schedule where Sonic has changed from March to “Spring 2007″.

Did Wii Break Your TV?

That's the question that uber popular search engine Yahoo asked gamers who purchased Nintendo's 5th console Wii. Here is the full article below: (Huge props to Mowser for the find!)

Picture this. You're lining up the perfect shot in Wii Bowling, remote in hand. You set up the shot, swing the remote with all the strength you can muster, and... follow through a little more than you intended.

Somehow the remote leaves your sweaty-palmed grip and bang, smash, there goes your TV, window, photo of your granny, anything that happens to be in the path of the newly liberated remote.

Hold on, though. If you're wearing the (supplied) wrist strap, no harm done, right? So you'd think. As you can see, some Wii owners are finding the strap decidedly lacking. (Check out nascent site wiihaveaproblem.com for more strap malfunctions.) The problem isn't with the amply broad strap itself, but the considerably narrower section that connects the strap with the remote, which is prone to fray in some circumstances. The result is smashed remotes, smashed televisions, smashed windows, and unhappy (or, at least, somewhat red-faced) customers.

You can find the rest of the article here.

Famitsu Wii Ratings Update

Quick Update: In the latest issue of Famitsu Weekly in Japan, the publication rated both Wii Sports and Wii Play. Wii Sports received a score of 7/7/8/8 out of 10, while Wii Play received a score of 7/7/6/8 out of 10. I personally cannot wait for Wii play. The title looks to be highly addictive and it comes with a wii-mote. What more could you want?

4 Million by Year's End!

Our good pal and fearless leader Reggie Fils Aime has stated that Nintendo is currently on track to meeting their target of 4 million Wiis shipped globally before the year’s end.

“All systems are go for reaching the 4-million target we have in our financials by Dec. 31,” Reggie said at the Reuters Media Summit in New York. “We will sell everything we make so now it’s simply a manufacturing thing.”

With over 600,000 units sold to date and the growing popularity of Nintendo's innovative Wii, it looks like Nintendo is poised to take over the gaming industry.

Amazing New Wii Promo Trailer

600,000 Wii's Sold

Well gamers, the Nintendo Wii is off to a great start! According to a press release from NoA, over 600,000 Wii systems were sold last week. If we do the math correctly, that’s nearly one system per second. Including accessories and games, Nintendo has made over 190 million dollars on the Wii so far.

Zelda: Twilight Princess was easily the best selling game for the system over the past week. It sold over 454,000 copies, giving it a whopping 75% attach rate. Other notable titles were Red Steel and Rayman Raving Rabiids. Good news for Nintendo.

Red Steel 2 in the Works?

Ubisoft, maker of Red Steel, Rayman and a ton of other quality titles, has a job posting on their France website, which asks for a Senior Game Designer who will take part in “the continuation of the Red Steel Project”. The job posting asks for “RPG” experience, which suggests RPG elements may be added in the Red Steel Sequel.

Here is hoping to a great sequel for a decent launch title. Look for more information soon.

Sold Out

Let me first start of this wonderful little story by stating that we all knew that Nintendo had something special with their 5th console Wii. The system is refreshingly addictive and everyone that comes into contact with the wiimote in all its "innovativeness" falls in love with the system.

On a recent trip to my local Best Buy, I noticed something that was both remarkable and shocking to me personally. As I strolled through the parking lot on a warm November day (I live in Buffalo gamers, we should have tons of snow), I noticed numerous white sheets of paper with the words "Nintendo Wii SOLD OUT" written in black sharpie.

While this may not be a huge shocker to you, what I found peculiar was the fact that there were no signs for Sony's me$a machine anywhere stating that their blue ray playing, bank breaking, more of the same system was sold out also. Could this mean that the general public has been asking more about the Nintendo Wii than the PS3? Have gamers finally realized that Nintendo should be king of the video game world? Did Best Buy run out of white paper and Sharpie markers?

Wii Tips and Tricks (Great Read)

Here is a great list of Wii tidbits that you might not know. Huge props to Gonintendo for the find.

· In the Photo Channel, you can catch the evil cat that runs across the screen to get tips! It appears in the Fun option, and you can grab the cat with the A and B button.

· You can have a 194 piece puzzle by holding down the 1 button before selecting any piece amount.

· If you don’t have an SD card and still want to check out Photo Channel, you can e-mail a Jpg to your Wii Message Board. There is a size limit for any mail you send to it - possibly 1mb.

· In Bowling, you can throw your ball into other people’s lanes.

· If you put mp3s in your SD card along with your photos, you can change the background music during a slideshow to one of your mp3s.

· When the messageboard records your play time, if you don’t exit to the Wii Menu before you power off the machine, it records the play time as “other”. If you properly exit to the menu and then shut off it will record it as the correct game.

· You can rearrange almost anything on the wii…like the channels and messages by just holding the A and B

· The plasma burin reduction kicks in the second the wiimote shuts down.

· when you get an e-mail, not only does the disc drive light up and pulsate blue, but your Wiimote sends out a little chirp

· when you’re in the Mii channel and you don’t use the Wiimote for a little bit and your Mii’s start walking around, if you then suddenly use the Wiimote, all the Mii stop and follow the ‘hand’ for about 3 seconds….

· when typing messages, and you need to go back and edit the message(while still typing) instead of deleting letters, just point to where you want to edit to move the type cursor.

· In Wii Sports Bowling, when you press up on the Directional Pad, it will zoom in on the lane. The zoom in sound is the exact same sound from Super Mario 64 anytime you moved the camera.

· Co Op Jugsaw puzzles in wii photos

· You can place the sensor bar upside down and it doesn’t reverse the directions of your movements…

· In wii sports bowling, you can release on the back swing and throw the ball backwards. It scares all the miis behind you.

· Classic controller has analog shoulder buttons. With the GC “click” at the bottom.

More Wii HD Talk

Recently Game Informer spoke with Nintendo about a firmware update to patch the Wii for High-Definition capability. According to Nintendo, currently they have "no plans for HD on the Wii", however they stated that rival Microsoft was able to patch the 360 to support 1080p, which means that it’s not entirely impossible. I would persoanlly love to see this hapen and will keep you all updated on the situation.

What Have I Witnessed?

Last night I witnessed something horrible. I witnessed my father beating my Mother in what for sure will go down as one of the greatest matches ever! You see gamers, Nintendo Wii has arrived in my humble abode and man does the system deliver. The match: My Dad (who has never/ would never touch a video game), VS My Mom (who likes puzzle games). It was a grueling 5 minutes with the end result as my mom the victor. I wish I could have recorded the whole thing as we all screamed and laughed at the top of our lungs. My best buddies were over and they got to witness this momentous fight. We all awaited our chance to duke it out with my parents in the virtual ring and give them the worst whoopin' this side of the Mississippi.

Wii sports is truly a unique experience and should be tried by everyone. Last night I had a Wii-vent in which my parents were in attendance, and man was it fun. There was a total of 8 of us and we had a blast. My wife killed in bowling, my best bud owned everyone in golf, my mom whooped my Dad in boxing, my Dad looked like he was a seasoned tennis player and I wasn't too shabby in baseball. Overall I cannot wait to get home and start the fun again as my grandfather will be arriving in good old NY tonight.

The only gripe I have about the game is that it is digging into my Twilight Princess time.

Mario Party 8 Release Date Revealed

Weekend Fun

Well gamers, it's Friday which can only mean one thing; The start of the weekend is upon us. I would ask what you gamers are going to be playing this weekend but I think I already know the answer.....WII!!!! Finally!

Personally I have a big weekend planned. Tonight the Buffalo Sabres are taking on the Penguins in which I will be in attendance. After that I will probably play FF3 on the DS then it's on to the Wii midnight launch (Saturday). Overall it's going to be a busy weekend for me, what are you guys going to do? DS lite, Is There Anything It Can't Do?

Below are the Japanese "Wiikly" hardware sales:

1. DSL - 148,174 (5,595,283)
2. PS3 - 81,639 (81,639)
3. PSP - 19,123 (1,492,596)
4. PS2 - 16,157
5. 360 - 3,864
6. GBASP - 1,320
7. GBM - 1,213
8. NGC - 496
9. NDS - 279
10. GBA - 12
11. XBX - 3

DS Lite sales are healthy as usual even though the PS3 was released in the land of the rising sun. Now I do know that there are huge amounts of shortages in Japan for the PS3 (not Nintendo's fault), but take notice just how much DS lite sold: More than ALL of the other systems combined. Interesting huh?

Super Smash in May?

Any news about Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. is good news in my books. I cannot wait to battle it out online with all of you out there as soon as the game is released. It seems now there is a rumor going around the "internets" about the possibility of a May release for SSBB. The rumor stems from a quote made from the infamous IGN writer Matt C. Does Matt really know when the game is scheduled for release, or was he just speculating?

Check out this quote from a transcript of the recent chat session:

fantastikpro: so Bozon when do you think we will get smash bros?

Matt-IGN: Fant: May.

It's not the end all be all but it is something. http://beta.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif What do you guys think; Is Matt flexing his insider muscle, or is he just speculating?

An Intersting Wii Poem

‘Twas brillig and the slithy games
Did gyer and gimble in the press;
All mimsy were the value claims,
And ten-year lifecycle B.S.

“Beware the Jabberwalkman, my son!
Hype that bites, a price that wracks!
Beware Blu-Ray, and shun
The frumious Betamax!”

As in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwalkman, with PS/3,
Came whiffling through the ‘hood,
Encountering the Wii!

One, two! Through and through
The nunchuck went snicker-snack!
Wii left it dead, stock price blood-red
He went galumphing back.

“Hast thou slain the Jabberwalkman?
You rock, my beamish Wii!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!”
Mario chortled in his glee

Check out this interesting e-mail that just popped up in my inbox:

With everyone gearing up for the battle between the PS3 and Wii this weekend, I had an artist friend in Brooklyn draw up a little illustration to accompany a poem a reader sent in about the Wii and PS3. You might find the poem, based on Lewis Carrol’s Jabberwocky, or the illustration, of interest to your readers. You can reach the page here. Thanks!

Huge props to the Editor of FierceGameBiz. What do you guys think of this quality work?
