"Wii Prove our Promise"

As we all know, Nintendo will be on hand at Leipzig and is expected to give a keynote speech next month in Germany.

The keynote, called "Wii prove our promise", is planned to take place August 23 and last from 10:15-11:15 AM (4:15-5:15 AM EST or 1:15-2:15 AM PST). Unfortionetly No other information has so far been provided, but I think that some of Nintendo's biggest figures will be on hand. Whether or not Wii will be playable at the show is also unknown at this time.

According to some industry rumors, GC is expected to serve as the platform for new Nintendo Wii game announcements, and although any number of discussion points regarding Wii could be touched upon - company President Satoru Iwata did note in June that a launch date and price announcement would likely surface in or before September - it seems Nintendo's next console will be the primary topic.

Stay tuned with Gameonrevolution for more details! Game ON!

Game Off for E3?!?!

The following was taken directly from Next-Gen:

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) shindig has been a staple of game industry life since the mid-1990s. However, we understand the larger exhibitors have jointly decided that the costs of the event do not justify the returns, generally measured in media exposure.

Publishers believe the multi-million dollar budgets would be better spent on more company-focused events that bring attention to their own product lines rather than the industry as a whole.

Well placed sources say the news that larger exhibitors were pulling out had prompted urgent meetings among publishing executives. They decided that, without the support of the larger software publishers and hardware manufacturers, there would be no point in continuing.

ESA president Doug Lowenstein will likely announce the news some time within the next 48 hours, possibly on Monday. It's likely that the ESA will seek to limit the damage by organizing some form of lesser event in May, possibly even with the E3 brand, but this will be no more than a fig-leaf. The days of an industry event attended by all the major publishers, spending big money, are gone.

Calls to ESA staff are not being returned at present.

Should Wii have "Achievements?

I posted the follwing over on Nintendo's official forums and it seemes to generate some interest so I have decided to also post it here:

I personally love the whole achievement idea that XBOX 360 offers and I think that it would be a great idea if Nintendo would implement something similar in their upcoming Wii system. There is also a rumor now that PS3 will be doing something similar to XBOX's achievements. Think about it, wouldn't it be cool if Nintendo would reward you "shines" or "stars" for beating certain games, then you could take those points and buy VC games. What do you guys think?

Metroid Prime 3 Download Goodies?!

The Ngamer Magazine released these details about Metroid Prime 3: Corruption:

Corruption’s Coders at Retro Studio’s are determined to take adventage of the Wii’s “always-on” broadband concept, but they havent worked out how yet. If Xbox Live 360’s downloadable updates are anything to go by, you can count on getting at least one bonus level out of it, and Retro is hinting that multiplayer mode might be a downloadable extra for later.

Interesting to say the least. It looks as though Wiiconnect24 is starting to take shape. We will be here to keep you updated as always. Thanks for stopping by.

More Wii Launch Rumors

Another day, and another rumor that points to a possible October release for Nintendo Wii. Apparently Activision, the company behind Tony Hawk Downhill Jam, listed the title to come out in October. Call of Duty 3 was also on their schedule but for a November release. Since then, Activision has mysteriously taken down the "October release" for Tony Hawk and replaced it with "upon Wii release".

Has Activision slipped? Will Wii really ship in October, a full month before Sony's PS3? I am going to leave it up to you guys to decide that one. All I know is that I am getting more and more pumped about this release. Leave one in the comment section. Game ON!

Wii to be Region Free?

In a recent interview IGN asked to Perrin Kaplan, (vice president of marketing and corporate communications, Nintendo of America), about the possibility of Nintendo Wii Region Free. The answer seems to be a simple "yes". Here is the interview:

The question: The DS has been an overwhelming success. Are you looking into using the same fundamentals — like, for instance, its region-free standard — for Wii?

Perrin Kaplan: Clearly, the success of Nintendo DS has offered a lot of lessons about what works in the marketplace — and we certainly intend to keep our fans satisfied. For the Wii system, we are finalizing all the relevant details and will be making announcements in the coming months. We know that isn’t what you all want to hear (or read) but at least we are being honest! We will share a lot of ways people can play globally, regionally, without boundaries. You’re right that the region-free approach has proved to be a successful and attractive feature for Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection on Nintendo DS — we have even blown the doors off our own anticipated numbers! Cost, ease-of-use and player privacy are the three things that were a focus for us with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Those priorities also will apply to the Wii system.

Importers get ready~!

Conspiracy Theory: Wii Launch Date *UPDATE*

Recently our good friends over at Nintendo have revealed a lineup of games that they will be bringing out on a console near you. When they released this list, the big "N" had some mysterious words in regards to the release of their 5th console Wii. Immediately the internet went into a frenzy on who, what, where, when and why Nintendo will release the Wii. The magic date that people thought they revealed: October 2nd.

At first I was going to totally dismiss this rumor and not even consider posting it but it seems as though some of the "bigger" websites have even taken notice. Gamers I am just as confused as you are. Part of me wants to believe that Nintendo is going to surprise us all and release early, but the other part thinks that an October release is not in the cards. One thing is for sure, this rumor certainly has captured the interest of many internet sites.

I have found that the most in depth site that has provided a wealth of information can be found here. Do you guys think Nintendo has placed us a well thought out riddle, or is this just for generating a hype for the systems launch?

**UPDATE**- I am sure now that the cats out of the bag and everyone is going to be reporting release date theories, I will be updating this story as the day goes on. Keep it here gamers as I think this deserves much attention. Keep those fingers on the refresh button! PS3 comes out on or around the 13th of November. Nintendo will probably release their system before this date. The recent chatter on the internet now points to a release of either early October or November 6th. Just for a quick reference Nintendo LTD. was founded on November 6th 1889.... Have to love rumors! I will try and do some more digging so keep it here.

No News is Good News?

I used to think that the above quote was fiction. I never used to believe that "no news was good news": but hear me gamers, next month is going to be good. You see gamers, we are in the summer drought. It happens every year and probably will continue to happen.

Next month Nintendo will take part in numerous shows and conventions highlighting their 5th console Wii. It is there that we will learn more about our innovation and hear more about release dates and its mysterious virtual console. I am hear to simply tell you, "sit tight". We are on the brink of something amazing. An innovative system and something that will for sure change the way "wii" play games.

Take this time and really play those titles that you haven't beat yet. I have been playing a decent amount of DS lately and it has been great. Take this "drought period" and replay some games. Have fun gamers, Wii is right around the corner. How are you guys keeping busy this summer? Leave a comment in the comment section and let everyone know! 20 Million Can't be Bad

Nintendo has announced that the total sales of their handheld console, Nintendo DS(and DS Lite) have surpassed the 20 million mark. They estimate that 21,270,000 have been sold since it was introduced in November 2004.

Nintendo's innovation sold 4.5 million DS consoles in the first quarter of 2006. Nintendo also expects the new DS Lite to sell 17 million between April 2006 and March 2007. That would bring the total amount of consoles sold to a staggering 40 million units in the first 2 and a half years!

Great job Nintendo!

Simply Amazing Idea by Valve

I cannot even describe the possabilities of this game. Can you imagine if this comes out on Wii? Please comment!!

Rumor Mill: Virtual Console Edition

Everyone loves a good rumor and with Nintendo's 5th console there is definitely no shortage. The following rumors will be about Nintendo's virtual console. Here's the scoop:

My sources are stating that Metroid Prime 3 will allow free downloading of old Metroid titles as reward for completing certain goals throughout the game. This rewards system will make players unlock certain events or parts in the game, then have access to the old title. It also does not stop there gamers, Nintendo will be hosting online tournaments with virtual console games at stake.

Some of the old games will feature "special features" for the innovative Wiimote. One example is how Duck Hunt works with the Wiimote. Don't get your hopes up too high though, not all of them will do this.

Also Super Mario 1 may be included with every console.

Thanks guys please file these under "rumors". We will keep you updated. Game ON!

Wii Just Keeps Getting Better and Better

Here are a few tidbits that were taken from hardcore magazine. Here's what they had to say:

About Metroid:

*Demo was impressive, intense, and once we became used to the mechanics, a blast to play
*New Corruption mechanic having to do with ‘phasons’
*Implimenting a ‘Weapon stacking’ system similar to that in ‘Super metroid’, you will be able to ’stack’ beams on top of each other in a way that you will continue to have the same power as the previous beam, but the new beam will be will be added on top
*Context sensitive events like in RE4
*No (or very little) scanning, more focus on interaction with motion controls
*Can’t discuss plans for speaker at this time
*No multiplayer freatures planned, but very excited about Wiiconnect possibilities
*New costumes for samus
*Prime will be set ‘a few months’ after the events of Prime 2
*no hunters from ds version in the game but ‘plenty of new hunters’ in prime 3
*Graphics have been updated since E3, more memory has been added ‘a very noticable improvment in the quaitys of the visuals.

Well there you have it gamers, Nintendo Wii seems to have received an "upgrade". I cannot wait to see this game in action. Game ON!

New Sadness Details

It seems as though Nintendo Wii title Sadness now has a publisher. Unfortunately due to NDA, we wont be knowing who it is for a little while. This is the first title that will be exclusively in black and white.

Plus we are hearing that this recent development is only the tip of what could be a very large iceberg. New information about the game will be available very soon. Keep in mind there is a show next month and Nintendo will be in attendance.

Red Steel:Rated M for Mature

More Wii News

Hey guys some new details have popped up recently over at IGN regarding Nintendo Wii. Here are the highlights:

*The recent news of Crash Bandicoot coming to the Wii is false;
*Excite Truck is looking like being a launch game now and is further along than what Nintendo was letting on;
*After the success of Naruto on the GC in the US, the 3rd and 4th versions from Japan will instead be put out on the Wii in the US;
*When the Virtual Console launches, 20-30 games will be made available straight away;
*The Leipzig Games Convention taking place in Germany next month will probably reveal some more Wii titles.

Is anyone else pumped about seeing new Wii titles next month? It seems like this is going to be a strong launch period for Nintendo's 5th console and an even stronger 1st year. Excite truck at launch is a nice little surprise. We will keep you updated as always so keep it here gamers. Game ON! Enjoy some gameplay footage of excite truck below.

Wii in November

Despite many internet rumors and speculation, it now seems like the Nintendo Wii will defiantly launch in November. This news comes straight from this Nintendo-revolution site. Be patient my fellow readers, wii is coming and it's going to be a blast. Game ON!

Wii First Overall?

Electronic Arts Corporate Communications Vice President Jeff Brown commented on the third-party publisher's support of Nintendo's new console, as well as Wii's potential success as a second system.

"Everybody's saying that the Nintendo Wii is so unique that it's going to be the second system people buy, meaning if you own a 360 or a PS3, you'll probably also buy a Nintendo Wii," stated Brown. "The funny thing is, some people say that discursively, like it's some sort of dig at Nintendo - and what they don't get is that if you're second on everybody's system, you're first overall."

It seems like the future is getting brighter and brighter for Nintendo's 5th console. With a google of amazing nostalgic titles, an innovative controller, a "price friendly" system, 3rd party support, and WiFi support; Nintendo seems poised to take back what is rightfully theirs. This year gamers, the king of games goes back on their thrown! Game ON!

Red Steel Info

GamePro recently spoke to Ubisoft creative director Nicolas Eypert about Red Steel. Eypert states how the innovative Wiimote has affected him after using it for over a year now, quoting; “I can tell you that I now have a hard time playing FPS on a console with standard controllers. It feels uncomfortable”.

He also discussed the multiplayer aspect of the game. Apparently up to four players will be able to play on the same console. Eypert says “If they play together in split screens we can only say that the fight will not be only on screen. Concerning the [multiplayer] gameplay, we will reveal more later in the development process”.

Good stuff indeed. You can preorder this one now.

Wii Details Emerge

Man I wish I could take credit for this story but the following post can be found at Cubed3.com. Over at their quality site, they had unearthed some new Wii details. Here is what they had to report:

"Firstly, Wii's remote will apparently run on AA batteries. Fear not though, as using the precise pointing functions continuously will give 30 hours of life, while using accelerometer functions only continuously will give around 60 hours of battery life. On average then, if you're using the two functions, there should be upwards of 40 hours uhttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifsage before needing to change or recharge your batteries.

Next up is the long-speculated issue of internal memory inside the controller. Now, this has seemingly been confirmed, with 6kb of 'non-volatile memory'. While this isn't a lot, this could be used for storing profiles, meaning that each person in a household could have their own controller tied to them with their own personal account, and things such as online data or records may be able to be stored in it.

The SYNC button behind the front flap on Wii is confirmed to identify controllers nearby the system and assign them unique wireless IDs. It would be pressed first, then another SYNC button would be pressed on the Wii remote itself, similar to what you would do with a wireless mouse, though it is not known how often this would have to be done. IGN’s documentation also suggests that pressing the 1 and 2 buttons together at a certain point, presumably during boot-up, would do the same thing as pressing the SYNC button on the console.

The controller LEDs also have two functions – firstly, to show player number, which is obvious already, and secondly to show battery life. When starting up, a number of lights will flash – if four, the controller has 75% to 100% life left, three and it has 50% to 75%, two and it has 25% to 50%, and one to indicate 0% to 25% - time for a battery change!

The rumble is standard and does not change in sensitivity according to context, but quick flicks of the motor being activated and deactivated will apparently intensify the vibrations if a developer wants to do so. To add to this slightly disappointing news, the documentation confirms that there may be some interference on occasion from halogen lamps, mirrors, some plastics and fluorescent light sources, and to get around this the controller must make sure that it is identifying correctly with the sensor bar (which houses two sensors, one at each end of the 20 centimetre rod).

The final piece of information is speculation from IGN based on information in the design document. It seems that the Wiimote measures coordinates between 0-1023 on the X-axis and 0-767 on the Y-axis; therefore, it is almost seeing a megapixel image. IGN has come up with the thought that the pointer will somehow be able to act as a camera, which would solve the rumours of camera support in the system – could this be the last secret? This is entirely unconfirmed, though.

Remember that details are subject to change, and we wouldn’t be surprised if a rechargeable battery source was put into the controllers rather than AAs at the last possible moment. Also bear in mind that IGN seem to be the only ones with these design documents, so they may have misinterpreted them in some way".

Long post but some very interesting stuff indeed. What do you guys think? Do you think Wii will still have some secrets up its sleeve or has Nintendo not shown their full hand? Keep it here gamers, Game ON!

Is There Anywhere Mario Can't be Found?

Thought this would be cool to pass onto you guys. Apparently everyone's favorite plumber will now be appearing on band-aids at a Japan store near you. If you're feeling clumbsy or just want to sport a cool new Mario Band aid, this product is for you. I wonder what's next....Dish soap?

This picture was found from the good guys over at Kotaku. Go scrape your knees gamers and have Mario lend you helping hand. Game ON.

Site Updates

I am very proud to announce that our first ever contest is officially over and done with. Thanks to all of the artists who submitted work and the winner will be announced soon. In case you missed it, we here at Gameonrevolution asked artists to submit a new design for a banner for the site. After much deliberation, we will be picking a winner in the next couple of days. Please let us know what you think of the new banner once it is up. A brand new DS game was up for grabs. Don't worry gamers, we will be doing another contest soon so stay tuned for that.

Secondly-our new poll is asking what you guys want in this site and what new features you would like to see. It seems like people are leaning towards a newer, revamped look for the site. Please don't forget to vote. It will only take you 2 seconds but will help me immensely.
