King of Clubs Trailer

Below if the official press release of this newly announced humorous game, King of Clubs. I'm still not sure what to make of the game.

The sun blazes down relentlessly here in the Nevada desert. Route 66 is nearby but not that many cars pass this way. You could say it’s rather deserted…but all that is set to change because Big Bubba, the state’s leading entrepreneur is about to transform this less than lively location into a thriving tourist attraction!

He may not have big bucks to invest but he’s got plenty of imagination and drive. This summer, this hot and dusty corner of the USA will become Nevada’s No.1 holiday hot spot!

But y’know, you can’t be too careful. Big Bubba has had one hell of an idea for drawing those tourists and their greenbacks into his new business venture, so he’d be crazy to risk some other wheeler-dealer copying his brainchild. Therefore for now, he’s going to be uncharacteristically tight-lipped about the exact nature of Nevada’s biggest and brightest tourist attraction!

This is the setting for King of Clubs - a fun and engaging trick-based action puzzle game. The game’s distinctive vintage Americana graphics and soundtrack, along with its appealingly humorous multiplayer mode should make it one of this summer’s surprise hits. The game has 96 levels, including 10 multi-level challenges, plus bonus areas, and offers hours of game play and a host of gadgets.

Big Bubba will of course, in the fullness of time, reveal more about Nevada’s hottest tourist attraction and this Summer’s most unusual game – he recommends that you watch out for more information on his latest business venture.

King of Clubs is due to be published for the Wii™,, PlayStation®2 and PC on 20th July 2007 by Oxygen Games™. PSP® (Playstation®portable) system

and Nintendo DS™ system versions will follow and will retail at £24.99 for all formats.

Matt C Update, Sega and Nintendo Olympics Online?

IGN'snon-charismatic Matt C had the following to say about today's newly announced joint venture between Nintendo and Sega....Be sure to read the middle part of the statement.

I think some of you were expecting a Mario and Sonic platformer of some sort, but really, this title makes much more sense to me. It is, when you break it down, Wii Sports + Olympics + Mario + Sonic + online. What the hell is not to like about that? This game could very well be the next biggest thing since Wii Sports. Do not downplay its existence. If it is done right, it could be one of Wii's best-sellers of the year.

Online play huh? Thanks Matt.

Super Paper Mario= Crazy Delicious!

We all knew that the inevitable triumphant return of every one's favorite plumber Mario was no doubt going to be phenomenal. A lot of the gaming community has focused their attention on Mario's return to 3-dimensions while watching the unbelievable trailer for the much anticipated Super Mario Galaxy. I can't say that I blame them too. However gamers, we mustn't forget that we are getting a brand new Mario title in a matter of weeks.

Enter Super Paper Mario; a title in my opinion has been much overlooked up until recently. The lucky guys over at Computer and Video games have recently sat down and played the new Mario title and were absolutely blown away at the games mechanics.

The article also goes on to state that the game is "Simply brilliant - and one of the best games we've ever played". Strong words from the website, but did we really expect anything less?

Look for the king of the videogame world to take back his thrown come next month. Game On.

SEGA AND NINTENDO JOIN FORCES FOR MARIO & SONIC AT THE OLYMPIC GAMES

The headline says it all gamers. Read the official announcement below and get ready for an awesome game come holiday time! Also, click here for the official site!

TOKYO (March 28, 2007) - SEGA® Corporation and Nintendo Co. Ltd. today made a historical announcement that two of the biggest icons in the entertainment industry, Mario™ and Sonic™, are joining forces to star in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. Developed for the Wii™ video game system and the Nintendo DS™ system, this momentous agreement marks the first time these two renowned stars have appeared together in a game.

Published by SEGA across Europe and North America, and published by Nintendo in the Japanese market, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games will be available for Holiday 2007 and is licensed through a worldwide partnership with International Sports Multimedia (ISM), the exclusive interactive entertainment software licensee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, players will compete in events that take place in environments based on the official venues of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Using a supporting cast of characters from the amazing worlds of both Mario and Sonic, gamers will be able to compete as or against a range of lovable personalities including Mario, Sonic, Luigi™, Knuckles™, Yoshi®, Tails™ and more. Innovative usage of the Wii and DS control systems to maneuver a favorite character will allow players to race the likes of Mario and Sonic down the 100m track, engage in exhilarating rallies in table tennis and churn water in a swimming heat, all while competing for the much sought after gold medal.

"We are thrilled to partner with Nintendo and ISM on this groundbreaking title," said Hisao Oguchi, President and Chief Operating Officer, SEGA Corporation. "For the first time, two of the world's greatest games' characters come together to compete in the world's greatest sporting event and we couldn't be more excited."

"Mario and Sonic have been respectful rivals since the early days of video games," says Shigeru Miyamoto, Senior Managing Director and General Manager, Entertainment Analysis and Development Division, Nintendo Co., Ltd.. "In fact, for a long time they have been discussing the possibility of one day competing against each other. Now that they have been given the perfect opportunity to meet at the Olympic Games, we may finally learn who is actually faster, Mario or Sonic?"

"The Olympic Games represent the true spirit of competition and passion," said Raymond Goldsmith, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ISM. "Bringing together intensely competitive and fun characters like Mario and Sonic in an Olympic setting helps showcase the sports of the Olympic Games in a new and compelling way for all generations."

The Simpsons Coming To Wii?

With the recent praise given to Nintendo's 5th console Wii by Simpson's writer J. Stewart Burns, one would only assume that everyone's favorite animated family would be hitting the Wii.

Now we all know what happens when we assume things, but my good friend told me today that he has reserved his copy of a Simpson's video game for the Nintendo Wii. Funny, I don't remember reading anything about a new Simpson's title but this pretty much confirms this.

I would imagine that the title should be popping up around the release of the movie. Keep it here gamers and we will keep you updated.

A Slew Of Wii Rumors

Here is something to help you get through these slow news days. Fellow blogger Falafelkid has recently posted a slew of rumors that he so nicely translated from the Spanish Website Revogamers. Everything from the successor to the DS, to new VC games are discussed. Enjoy the read below.

GameBoy successor cancelled

Nintendo had been working on the ´Gameboy Advance Next´ which was to become a third pillar (alongside the Wii as a home console and the DS as a portable). The handheld was to feature hardware comparable in power to that of the GameCube.

It was to offer online gaming and downloadable titles, do away with physical media altogether and be compatible with the Virtual Console. Apparently, concerns over media storage and too high a price point caused the project to be scrapped.

DS successor in the works

Nintendo is working on ´Project 3´ which is to become the successor of the DS. It will be a handheld console without buttons. Instead, it is just one big touchscreen, comparable to Apple´s ´iPhone´.

New Miyamoto IP

Miyamoto is working on a new IP on a similar scale to Zelda. It is codenamed ´The Rise of Darkness´.

It is said to be an online-only title, perhaps an MMO. Miyamoto wants every day to be different in the game. An older rumour on the same site pointed to a game that mixed elements of the real world with science fiction and spritual elements, loosely inspired by Buddhism. Gameplay-wise it was described as mixture between Zelda and Shenmue.

Nintendo developing MMO

More talk about an online game, codenamed ´Project Live´. This sounds very much like an MMO. It is said to be a big city, in which you can kidnap players from another team and leave clues for them to find you. No word on whether this is connected to Miyamoto´s new IP.

Miis used in future games

´Animal Crossing´ on Wii will be based on Miis, ´Mario Party 8´ and even the Wii version of ´Mario Kart´ might feature them, as well.

More channels coming

The next Wii system update will feature both a ´Movie Channel´ and a ´Talk Channel´. No further information is given other than the names. Also, there will be some improvements to the ´Mii Channel´, as far as I can make out.

Brain training may become dedicated channel

Some talk about a game that is based on the Latin phrase ´Mens sana in corpore sano´ (Latin for: ´a healthy mind in a healthy body´). This sounds very much like Braining Training or Big Brain Academy. Apparently, this could become a channel of its own.

Wii mic takes shape

The Wii microphone will plug into the controller, just like the Nunchuk extension.

N64 blockbuster titles coming to VC

´GoldenEye 007´ and ´Donkey Kong 64´ will make their appearance on the Virtual Console this year. Apparently, the contracts between Nintendo and developer Rare work in Nintendo´s favour. It looks as if no other Rare games will become available, though.

Also, ´Star Fox 64´ (aka Lylat Wars), Ganbare Goemon (aka Legend of the Mystical Ninja) and ´Mischief Makers´ will make it to the Virtual Console soon.

Support Too Much of the Wrong Kind?

When reader SHVITZEL talks, Gameonrevolution listens! If you are an avid Gameonrevolution visitor, you probably know Shvitzel from our forums. If not, you don't know what you are missing. Below is his dissection of the kind of support that the Wii has seen thus far its short life cycle. Enjoy the read and thanks to SHVITZEL again for the editorial. Game ON.

Support is an interesting concept and one of much discussion around here. People often look at third parties and try to determine whether or not the Wii is getting enough support or the right kind. Well, here are my two cents on the topic of:
Third Party Support

Support can be defined by many qualities, but one thing remains constant when defining the word: support: to maintain or advocate; to uphold by aid; to maintain by supplying with things necessary for existence Support is many things, but essentially, it is maintaining something, holding something up, whether that be when things aren’t going so well, or when help is needed most....oh, say, like right after and during a home console launch. And currently, Nintendo is definitely getting support from all over, especially third parties. In fact, that was and remains a topic of much discussion here on Nsider. Back prior to the Wii’s launch, we were all discussing third parties and whether or not they were supporting the Wii enough.

We all looked to Ubisoft as the main supporter of the Wii, with what we believed were seven launch titles. This was an astounding number, and simply blew other developers out of the water when it came to number of Wii launch titles. And that wasn’t even counting the other titles Ubisoft had confirmed were coming to the Wii, in which sheer quantity again blew the other developers out of the water. Ubisoft was trying to support the Wii by giving us lots of games, but it is my belief that they gave the wrong kind of support. In fact, it seems like they did everything wrong.

Here are the seven launch titles (launch window) games that Ubisoft released for the Wii. I think we may begin to see a common theme with many of them....

Far Cry Vengeance–While technically offering a few updates and new content, the game was essentially a port with downgraded visuals. The game received very poor reviews all around.

GT Pro Series–While heralded for the new controller add-on, the game was a port from the GCN version and suffered weakened, although different, graphics.

Monster 4x4 World Circuit–Again, another port! This was ported from the Xbox.

Open Season–Look no farther than the name. Of course it was a port!

Rayman Raving Rabbids–This was one of Ubisoft’s original Wii titles! Sadly, the game was well received by some, not so much by others. The consensus was, however, that the game was not what it was claimed to be earlier in the year.

Red Steel–More original content! However, much like Rayman, the game was praised by some, not so much by others. The game suffered from glitchy controls and could have been a lot better in many aspects.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent–Port!

You can find the rest of the read here.

Wii Sims Online?

In a recent edition of IGN's popular N-Query, Matt Casamassina had the following to say when asked if Sims for the Nintendo Wii would be online:

I recently interviewed EA about the game - I'll post the transcript soon - and the developer wouldn't come right out and say it, but made very clear to me that it is exploring an online component for MySims. The signage you saw only strengthens my belief that the game will have it. Oh, and on a side note, I've chatted with some third parties now who already have online components in their forthcoming Wii projects. It's coming, guys - Pokemon Battle Revolution kicks it off in the near future, but in the next six months you're going to start seeing a wave of third party games that take Wii online, too. Developers have had the online SDK for months now and the next wave of titles will incorporate it.

Well it seems as though Nintendo is finally taking notice and implementing some online components in their future endeavors. We all knew that it was coming with the release of Nintendo's own Pokemon franchise this June; it's just great to hear that 3rd parties are now lining up to get in on Nintendo "Wii-Fi."

Phantom Hour Glass to be Online?

Fans who want their beloved Zelda series to join the ranks of many other classic Nintendo franchises that have made their way online, will have something to be happy about when the next incarnation of the series debuts later this year on the Nintendo DS.

In an interview with Game Informer magazine, Zelda co-creater Eiji Aonuma was asked if The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass will have online multiplayer battles. Without elaborating, he simply said, "Yes," and let out a maniacal laugh (ok the laugh I made up, but still interesting none the less)
